Home Enterprise Day in Nottingham

Home Enterprise Day in Nottingham

Home Enterprise Day, the final installment of Global Enterprise Week, was hosted for the East Midlands rgion in Nottingham last Friday.  I turned out to chat to people thinking of starting their own businesses about the joys of working from home and to share a few marketing ideas.

One of the first people I bumped into was Lisa Warner from Fink Cards, the event's keynote speaker. Lisa's home  business is based on of those ideas that is at once simple and ingenious - she has developed a range of "conversation cards" aimed at helping families create great conversationalists and communicators.

Based on cards she mLisa warner of Fink Cardsade to get her own children conversing round the dinner table, Lisa has expanded her range and has even developed a pack for a corporate client. Lisa has a great knack for getting publicity for her company - take a look at her talking to me about Finnk Cards and you'll see why - and reached the final of the Cartier Business Woman of the Year award.

I also bumped into - and finally got to recognise in person - @mummypreneur, otherwise known as Lyndsey Young, a fellow Twitter fan and, amongst other things, developer of the Count-on-it food freshness labels, designed to stop us throwing away food from our fridges and freezers because we can't remember how long it is since it was first opened.  When you think that an average family wastes up to £610 a year through throwing away edible food, it makes good sense to find a great way to reduce your family food bill. You can buy these handy food freshness labels on line or at a Lakeland near you.

Aaron Ferguson RonfixExhibiting at the event was Aaron Ferguson, founder of Ronfix and a graduate of the University of Nottingham. I've had the pleasure of advising Aaron at the monthly marketing clinics I do at UNIEIlab, the unit that supports students and graduates in starting up their own businesses. Ronfix now has premises in Nottingham city centre to provide computer repair and data recovery services in Nottingham for students and home and home office users.  Bravely, they will happily look at the kinds of problems that the bigger players in this area shun and are very reasonably priced.  Aaron talked to me a bit about Ronfix's computer repair service.

All in all, a good morning out - it's always a pleasure to talk to interesting entrepreneurs with bags of enthusiam.
